About us
As a small team with shared expertise in the languages and scripts used in Nepalbhasa manuscripts, the NMUK project is funded by World Newah Organization UK Chapter and other benevolent donors.
Archive
We host a growing archive of Newar manuscripts found in the UK. Originally in Nepalbhasa and Sanskrit languages, the digital copies are openly accessible with transcription and translation.
Nepalbhasa Manuscripts
In the UK, a large number of private collectors, art dealers, auction houses, museums, and archives have been storing countless Nepalbhasa manuscripts for the last many decades. These manuscripts range from religious books to accounts of private transactions.
Known as Thyasafu in the local language of Nepalbhasa, meaning a folded book, Nepalbhasa manuscripts can be unfolded to read various narrations from Buddhist and Hindu religious beliefs. They are mostly written in Prachalit Nepal, Ranjana, and also Devnagari scripts.

NMUK is committed to grow its online archive of digitised Newar manuscripts with their transcription and translation.
You can submit the details of a manuscript you have access to for digitization and further preservation.
Get Involved
NMUK is a non-profit voluntary project for the preservation of Nepalbhasa manuscripts in the UK with which you can get involved in several ways.
As a Visiting Expert
You can get involved as an NMUK Visiting Expert for the annotation, digitization, transcription, transliteration, and translation of manuscripts.
As a Manuscript Adopter
As a certified NMUK Manuscript Adopter, you can adopt a manuscript for its digitization, transcription, and translation before it is accessible to the public.
As a Donor
You can donate any amount of your choice either regularly or one-off to help us grow our archive. You will be certified as the official NMUK Donor for one or more manuscripts.
Apply
If you are an expert in classical Nepalbhasa, Prachalit Nepal script and/or Ranjana script, your contribution can be of great value to us. When you deliver a project successfullys, your contribution will be duly certified.
